So, just what is hypnosis?
A state of relaxation and/or level of concentration.
Many people have the wrong idea of what hypnosis is and feels like based on what they've seen on television and at the movies. In fact, hypnosis is a state of mind we experience all on our own, several times a day.
Consider driving, lost in thought and not remembering the last mile or two you just drove. Another example of your trance state is being lost in a good book or movie and your jump at the sound of your name. Daydreaming, is yet another type of hypnosis.
You may never have thought these were what it feels like to be hypnotized, however a Certified Hypnotherapist is trained to take you to this state of mind, using several techniques to deliberately guide you to the state of control. Yes, it is a myth that someone is controlling you and making you do things against your will. Hypnotherapy puts you back in control of your life and restores your freedom of choice.
One does not even have to be in a deep trance to gain benefit. Usually a light state of Alpha is all that's needed. You are completely aware of your surroundings, what is being said to you and can accept or reject the subject matter at will.
You will never experience being out of control, you will be very relaxed. You will probably not forget anything, what you imagine may be very vivid.
Your thoughts will not stop working, you may feel like you're floating, or very heavy. You may experience harmless pins and needles in your hands and or feet, and you may experience some sort of body distortion, your arms and legs may feel upside down or reversed.
Your mind is actually very focused, while yet your conscious mind will feel a bit like it is sleeping. It is your unconscious mind that will be paying attention to the change you desire.
There is no wrong way to experience it. You can not get it wrong, so just relax and enjoy the journey!
